Nothing gets done without your say so Whilst we have a duty of care to get
your stuff right, it's not our business that's being represented. Sorry
to be blunt but your phone numbers, addresses, jargon and prices don't
mean that much to us. It's your responsibility to proof
and authorise your stuff for production. To help you do this thoroughly, we provide clear instructions on how to proof and won't print anything without your formal authorisation.
Follow the instructions When you're asked to proof something you'll find it's accompanied by a set of
instructions - please follow them carefully. You see, if you can't follow
a set of instructions, how do we know you've actually bothered
to proof properly! And yes we do see 'making' you do your proofing properly
part of our duty of care. Sorry, but it's either this or you end up with something
that contains an error. And you'd really hate that.
If you're a disk risker, you won't get a proof The exception to the rule is if you're a disk risker. This means you're supplying your design 100% compliant with the technical requirements of our print process. And if you're doing this, we're merely printing your file. So why would you want a proof if nothing's been altered? Of course we can supply one if you really want. Just be aware there'll be a minimum charge of £6 for a pdf.
Print options: the "old fashioned way" or on-line? Sometimes the tried and tested way works best: emailed proofs can be printed and read on the bus home. The other thing is have you ever noticed how you 'see' things differently between print and screen? Perhaps it's just my age. And on that note we do real-time on-line proofing. Website proofing Naturally this is on-line via our update centre (the same tool you'll use to manage your content when you site is live). The thing is, a website gets proofed twice and each stage requires a different approach. Stage one, proofing the master page, needs to be got right, because once it's done its difficult to go back. We treat this stage like proofing for print. Stage two is different, because it's about content and this is, of course, editable via the update centre when the site is live. This means things can be a bit more relaxed. As part of this, we'll show you how to use the update centre so that if you really want to polish your words to a fine shine, you can - yourself.
